April Impact on inclusion award: Pea Ridge school district

Pea Ridge School District continues to set a powerful example of what true inclusion looks like in action, and at the heart of that effort is a district whose vision has brought students, families, and the community together in meaningful ways. This month, Pea Ridge is being recognized as the April Impact on Inclusion recipient for their outstanding commitment to creating a school culture where every student belongs and is celebrated.

A defining moment of that impact was on March 7th, during their 2nd Annual Community Pep Rally. The event was more than just a celebration; it was a reflection of the inclusive spirit the district strives to build. Athletes, Unified partners, and coaches were recognized for their dedication and participation in Special Olympics Arkansas programs. The Unified Cheerleaders energized the crowd with a spirited performance, while the Unified Bowling and Basketball teams were honored for their achievements.

The event drew strong support from the community, with families and local supporters showing up in full force; donating, purchasing concessions and t-shirts, and cheering enthusiastically for every athlete. At the center of it all was Pea Ridge School District’s message: inclusion matters, and every individual deserves recognition, respect, and the opportunity to shine.

Leadership within the schools has helped elevate the Special Olympics Arkansas programming to remarkable heights. This year alone, Pea Ridge High School earned national recognition as a Special Olympics Unified Champion School. The Unified Bowling Team achieved State Runner-Up at the AAA State Bowling Competition, and the Unified Basketball Team competed for the state championship in Hot Springs; milestones that reflect not only athletic excellence but a deep commitment to unity and teamwork.

The success of these athletes is no accident. It is the result of intentional leadership, a shared vision, and a belief that schools should be places where differences are embraced and celebrated. Pea Ridge has fostered an environment where students support one another, build meaningful relationships, and grow both on and off the field.

As the district celebrates its athletes, coaches, families, and partners, it also celebrates the unwavering belief in inclusion. Their work reminds us of all that when inclusion is prioritized, entire communities are strengthened, and every student has the chance to succeed.
