Coaches Health Education Training

Coaches Health Education Training provides important health messages that coaches can use both in their personal lives and with athletes during practices and competitions. By learning and sharing wellness strategies, coaches help create healthier teams and stronger communities
How it Works:
Invite local professionals to speak for 10–15 minutes at coaches’ education meetings throughout the year. These short, focused sessions give coaches practical tools to take back to their teams.

Sample Training Topics:
  • Posture, Alignment & Injury Prevention – led by a local chiropractor or physical therapist
  • Injury Prevention & Recovery – led by fitness professionals or athletic trainers
  • Eat Well, Live Well – using Special Olympics Fit 5 and Live Healthy materials
  • Infection Control (Universal Precautions) – led by a local nurse
  • Healthy Athletes Introduction & Review – presented by Amber Robinson or HA Clinical Directors

Activating Health Messengers & Fitness Captains
Coaches can also strengthen their teams by empowering Health Messengers and Fitness Captains to take on leadership roles in wellness. These athlete leaders can:
  • Lead warm-ups, cool-downs, or short fitness circuits at practice
  • Share nutrition and hydration reminders with teammates
  • Introduce fitness tracking or goal-setting tools
  • Guide relaxation or breathing exercises before/after games
  • Celebrate and encourage healthy habits among teammates
When coaches give Health Messengers and Fitness Captains space to lead, athletes not only build leadership skills but also make health a natural, ongoing part of the team culture.
