October Impact on inclusion award: Junction City High School
This school came together in a powerful display of unity, compassion, and school spirit to celebrate Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month—all in support of one of their own, Lexie Davis, a remarkable student-athlete who continues to inspire everyone she meets. Special Olympics Arkansas’ UCS Impact on Inclusion award recipient for October is Junction City High School!
Junction City High School UCS Liaison, Carmen Hajistathi, says, “Our entire school came together to celebrate Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month in support of one of our own Special Olympics athletes, Lexie Davis. Lexie, a proud member of the cheerleading squad, our Dragon Spirit Leader and a member of our Unified basketball team, continues to inspire us all with her strength and positivity.
As part of the celebration, students helped design and color Muscular Dystrophy-themed coloring sheets, which were proudly displayed throughout the school. We also hosted a Green Out Pep Rally, where Lexie was honored in front of the student body and later recognized again during that evening’s football game.
Each morning during Spirit Week, a member of Dragons United shared announcements with facts about Muscular Dystrophy and encouraged students to find ways to show their support for Lexie.
It was a powerful week filled with school spirit, education, and love for one of our strongest Dragons. “
